American Voters Not Only Distrust Political News, But They Think the Majority of Reporters are in the Tank for the Biden Administration
The corporate media is one entity that Americans of all backgrounds have grown to hate. Its misleading coverage of events and contrived consensus manufacturing has alienated broad swathes of the population.
A recent poll from Rasmussen Reports confirms the level of distrust Americans have towards the corporate press. In its latest national telephone and online survey, Rasmussen found that only 33% of Likely US votes trust the political news they consume. 53% do not trust the political news and 14% are not sure.
In a similar vein, 54% of voters believe that most reporters are trying to help Biden by giving him favorable coverage in order to make his agenda look more palatable to the masses. 10% believe reporters are impeding Biden’s ability to see his agenda through. 27% are of the view that the majority of reporters are interested in reporting the news in an objective fashion.
Putting this in perspective, in 2019, for example, 51% of voters opined that reporters were making an attempt to derail Trump’s agenda.
The partisan breakdowns are not that surprising. 51% of Democrats are more likely to trust the news they’re consuming than Republicans (23%) or unaffiliated voters (21%). As far as the sexes go, men (37%) tended to trust the political news more than women (29%). On the racial front, black voters (42%) trust political news more than both whites (33%) and other non-white groups (26%).
When it comes to partisan opinions, Republicans (72%) overwhelmingly believe that reporters work to only help Biden see through his policies. Democrats (35%) and unaffiliated voters (59%) share similar views with regards to reporters' work and how it relates to Biden’s policy priorities.
44% of Democrats believe that most reporters are reporting the news in an objective manner. Only 13% of Republicans and 23% of unaffiliated voters are in agreement.
When income is brought into the equation we see a considerable gap between the economic classes in terms of their views on the media. 45% of likely voters with incomes over $200,000 trust the new they consume, whereas less than 33% of likely voters earning less than $100,000 annually trust the media.
It’s no secret that Americans greatly distrust the corporate press. These recent poll numbers show that the media can no longer be relied to serve as an objective Fourth Estate. Instead, it’s a purveyor of disinformation and outrage politics that’s designed to generate clicks and not provide useful information that enhances political discourse.
Alternative media should be vigorously promoted during a time when there’s such a dearth of reliable news sources. Thinking ahead, alternative media entrepreneurship should proactively take steps to make their outlets censorship resistant, because in this crazy world, speaking the truth is now grounds for unpersonning.
