Within the span of several days, the calls to pull the Joe Rogan Experience from Spotify followed in the wake of YouTube permanently banning conservative radio host Dan Bongino from the site.
Bongino and Joe Rogan, comedian turned MMA commentator and now one of the most powerful voices in online content, could not be on further ends of the political spectrum. The fiery Bongino has been a conservative all-star for some time now since his rise during the 2016 election. From starting and investing in companies such as Parler and Rumble in order to combat what he describes as the “woke mob” of progressivism (we should probably start calling it a communist horde but what do I know), Bongino has the tip of the spear when it comes to conservative voices and activism.
Rogan, a self described “very liberal” man who openly supported Bernie Sanders in 2020, is an advocate for weed legalization and even universal basic income. The exact opposite of the red-meat tossing Bongino.
Yet here we are, right in the middle of clown world, plugged straight into the Matrix, wondering when this bizarro reality will get weirder because now Bongino and Rogan find themselves on the same side of the Cancel Culture battlefield.
Neil Young’s recent attacks on Rogan (if you haven’t been paying attention, read here) have opened the floodgates as everyone from the mainstream media and the cesspool that is Hollywood to the woke base of online liberal keyboard warriors, have been deluging Rogan and his contract holder Spotify with non-stop attacks over his “misinformation.”
Rogan’s sin? Not treating people who don’t think like him like trash. Being open to new ideas and experiences. Wanting to do his own digging into the issues that matter and coming to his own conclusions.
Sound like liberals a decade ago? Oh how far we’ve fallen.
While the odds of Rogan being booted from Spotify would involve insane amounts of money tossed at him and a legal battle to boot, he’s big enough to follow the Bongino path of supporting alt-tech platforms or even starting his own.
Not everyone is lucky enough to be as big as a Bongino or Rogan. To be moderate is to take a radical stance, and to not be super wealthy is to open ourselves to be at the mercy of the damned marriage of big government and big corporations.
If anyone can be learned from this experience, it is that the parallel economy isn’t just a luxury, it may be vital for the very sake of free thought in this increasingly unfree world.
