Which Way, Frenchman?

The war on globalism is, ironically, global. The Trump movement against open borders, disastrous “free trade” (really, managed trade) policies aimed at destroying the American workforce, and anti-Marxism lit a fire across global politics which has forced many nations to ask whether this new world order was really worth it to begin with.

However, with Trump gone (with whispers of a comeback), Brazil’s Bolsonaro not looking so well politically himself and England turning into a straight up COVID police state, where will the populist movement go for signs of life?

France may not have been the answer you were looking for, but for now it is the answer you’re getting. In April of 2022, the French presidential election may become a foreign race you’ll want to pay attention to in the same vein as 2016’s Brexit resolution.

The man in the arena is Eric Zemmour, who is one a one way mission to take down the politically correct agenda and terrible policies that have made France such a difficult place for those who simply want to live their lives. This isn’t just a tertiary issue for Zemmour, since he has had his own difficult past which led him to making this challenging decision to run and fight.

Zemmour previously had an extensive career as a professional journalist and even went on to become known as a gadfly during his time as a TV commentator. Things went south for him personally and professionally when he was in the eye of the storm of the mainstream media, having been fired and subjected to ridiculous hate speech violations.

For one, Zemmour was one of the few Frenchmen to point out the “Great Replacement” going on with the hordes of economic opportunists coming from predominantly north African countries, and even went so on to call those who supported this soft invasion as “traitors.”

Policy wise, Zemmour has also been openly critical of the pax Americana foreign policy which sees European partners as lesser allies. He even went so far as to call the Normandy landings an event which may have liberated France, but also politically and economically colonized France.

Anti-globalist and populist movements throughout the world are often mischaracterized as inherently being entirely pro-American at their roots. While most populist and anti-globalist leaders do turn to the US as an example, the importance is a prioritization of their own country’s interests first.

All nations act out of their own self-interest, and that should not be something to hide from or ignore. Zemmour’s agenda is not anti-American, but he is placing the safety and prosperity of the French people on top of all other priorities, including foreign entanglements which almost always end up delivering the opposite results of what the people wished for. To this extent, he has even made the unpopular move in the eyes of some western politicians by even saying that a possible functioning partnership with Russia would better serve the French people than that of existing partners.

By drawing comparisons to strong leaders from France’s past — Joan of Arc, Louis XIV, Charles de Gaulle — he is attempting to point to the past in order to fix the present so that the future will be one which truly puts France first in the eyes of taxpayers and lawmakers.
